Four reasons for a city trip to Malaga, Spain

Spain has a lot of nice cities and Malaga is certainly one of them! With an average temperature of 17 °C in the winter months and 31 °C in the summer months, Malage could also be your destination to escape the awful weather in your country? Is Malaga the destination for your next city trip?

Food

Tapas is available at any time of the day and at almost any terrace.
So skip lunch and dinner, but eat small Tapas all day long.
Walking from terrace to terrace, with in between the sights you want to see.
There is something tasty on every corner!

Breakfast is also offered in many restaurants. So breakfast included at your stay is not necessary.

Do you and your travel buddies have different taste in breakfasts? Or are you on the healthy tour? Then Noviembre is my recommendation for you, with its large range.

The locals in Malaga like to eat Churros for breakfast or as a snack.
They prefer to dip these in chocolate or coffee. At Tejeringo’s Coffee you are among the dipping locals.
You can order Churros per piece here, but also if you don’t like Churros, there are plenty other options on their menu!

The beach

With a nice tan back home?
Malaga is located at coast of Spain and the beaches are really great in terms of beauty and facilities.
The most famous beach near Malaga city is the beach of La Malagueta. Maybe you already know this beach from pictures, because of thee letters sign there?
But besides this beach, their are plenty of others along the coast around malaga.

The port of Malaga has a completely different atmosphere then the beaches and city centre. It is busy, sunny and modern.
Where you sometimes have to look for the sun in the city between the tall buildings, you don’t have to in the harbor.
On one side of the harbor you will find a Ferris wheel. Across the street is Muello Uno, a promenade with places to shop or dine and with some luck, a live act is performed.
All kinds of small and large boats dock at the harbor and you can also book a boat trip yourself.

Cycling

Malaga has plenty of bicycle rental options.
There are bicycle tours through Malaga itself, but most of these can also easily be done by foot. So I recommend to cycle along the coast.
This route is mostly on paths where cars are not allowed.
If you cycle along the beach of Malagueta a few miles further you will find the village of Pedregalejo Playa.
A village with a super nice, chill beachy holiday atmosphere. We stopped here for a lunch.
Don’t forget to bring your swimwear for a dive into the ocean.

Shopping

Shopping is a must do in Malaga.
Calle Marqués de Larios is the most famous street in the old center.
Here you will find all kinds of well-known clothing stores alongside souvenir shops, ice cream shops, etc.
Do you prefer something different than the well-known brands? Then you must walk through the narrower streets of the old center around Calle Marqués de Larios.

Be sure to also walk past Mercado Central de Atarazana. This is a covered market and even if you do not want to nuy any fresh vegetables, fruit or meat, it is nice to see this busy place.
You can recognize the building by its large stained glass image.

If you really wanna go home with full bags? Then visit one of the many shopping centers in the more modern part of Malaga. Centro Comercial Larios is with over 150 stores the largest.

Also nice to know:

  • Around the most famous street in Malaga, Calle Marqués de Larios, the tapas is often less authentic and more expensive;
  • Culture lover? Malaga will certainly conquer your heart. With its fortress on the mountain (beautiful with the sunset too!), Castle, cathedrals, museums, street art, the bullring, etc. there is also plenty to discover for you.
  • The temperature during the day, especially when the sun is shining, is very nice in Malaga. Although, it can be quite cold at the beginning and at the end of the day in winter and parts of autumn and spring. One moment you will walk in your (winter) coat and the next moment in your shirt only or even lie in your bikini at the beach. So pay attention with packing for this city…;
  • Visit one of the city’s many rooftop terraces by sunset. You can enjoy the last sun and then enjoy the beautiful sunset from there;
  • Also want to discover the nightlife of Malaga? There are many bars and pubs and the audience is mixed. Young and old partying together. It starts late, because everyone meets on the terraces and sitting there for a long time. The best place to go changes, just ask a local (waiters and / or waitresses for example) where to go that evening.
