Week 1 of the 30 days challenge – declutter with me in November

Week 1 of the 30 days declutter challenge in the books! In this blog I share what I decluttered, what I found out, where everything went and my ideas for the coming week.

Decluttering in week 1

My idea was to declutter only in my bedroom this week. And that was successful. I’m not even finished yet. I have one drawer and my night stand left to declutter coming week.

I decluttered clothes, sport clothes, swimwear, accessoires and jewellery. But I started this weeks with bags. I used this bags to put the stuff in I decluttered.

Where it all went

I made two friends and my mother happy with a jacket and they also found some other things from the rest of the clothes.
The rest I have either put on Vinted, taken to the thrift store or when no longer wearable put in the garment bin.
Basically the same with getting rid of the things from my makeup stand.

I’ve also put the incomplete, broken or discolored jewelry, empty boxes, packaging, etc. in the trash can.

At this moment I have taken three bags to the thrift store and I have a bed drawer full of stuff that I have put on Vinted. There are also bags with things that I gave away to friends and family, but since I didn’t see them yet, are still in my house.

Vinted

If you don’t know Vinted yet (and it is available in your country) let me explain what it is. Vinted is a marketplace, but mainly for the selling clothing and accessories.
The buyer pays for the product and shipping. That money is kept by Vinted until the sale is completed. As a seller you have no extra costs, as a buyer you pay € 0.99 in administration costs to Vinted.
I like the fact that you have a wide range for your sellings, as people from other EU countries also regularly buy things from me.

No Vinted account yet? Would you like to register via this link? Then I’ll receive a small commission.

Curious what I’m selling? Here you’ll find my closet.

What I found out

I found out this week that I have quite some things in my possession, that I have not used / worn for a long time.

I hung the clothes separately in my closet. I’m going to wear it soon and if it doesn’t make me really happy, I’m yet going to get rid of it.

For the other stuff, I notice that I have a lot of almost empty products. Occasionally too lazy to empty things properly, but sometimes also switched to something else.
I have decided to use them this month and then when it is empty count them as decluttered. This is a more sustainable choice than throwing it away!

Another thing I found out is that I got a lot of people decluttering. Some do not participate in the challenge and others thought they did not want to participate, since they did not have enought to declutter. But they found out they are and are doing the challenge! But those who don’t participate, have tackled a cupboard, drawer or something else somewhere this week. So a lot of people are decluttering stuff because of my challenge. Love it!

Coming week

I will continue in my bedroom next week. Got one more drawer to go from my makeup stand and my nightstand I can still declutter.

I also will go through all my food in my storage. I will try to use everything that has been there for a long time but is still edible. And then I also count it as “decluttered”. Just like I’ll do with my beauty products.

And since I’m in my kitchen for the food, I’ll continue with the rest of the kitchen. Dishes, trays, plates, vases, cookbooks, etc. I’m sure I can declutter some of them.

I think the week will be over before I’m done with my bedroom and the kitchen. But if you need something more. How about dvd’s, cd’s, magazines?

Entering the challenge from now on?

Sure you can!
Read this post. I explained how to declutter 465 things in November.
Whether you are going to catch up, continue longer or just skip the first days is entirely up to you!

What are your (declutter) plans this week?

  1. Decluttering is so fun! When I moved from a house to an apartment after my divorce, I donated 13 large bags of stuff (mostly kids’ clothes) and I felt great!

    1. Yes I also moved from a 3 floor house to an apartment this January, so this challenge is getting a bit hard. But almost everything I didn’t touch since January can leave.

  2. This is exactly what I need to do! I like that you are breaking it down; it can feel overwhelming to just say “I’m going to declutter my house this week”. Room by room is much more doable!

  3. I was reading through some of your blog posts on this internet site and I think this site is very informative ! Keep on posting . Dina Son Ponce
